Schenectady Heritage Foundation
Heritage Award Winners for 2002Presbyterian Church - 209 Union Street

The heritage awards are county wide in scope and  not necessarily limited to the Stockade neighborhood.  This year's winners are pictured at left in the order that follows:

First Presbyterian Church, 209 Union Street
This beautiful historic church was in need of a
roof, but the project kept getting bigger.  27 Front Street
Included in the work was restoration of the
original ceiling and organ.

27 Front Street - owned by Lisa Alexander
and Brad Fisher.  Lisa and Brad recently bought
this 200 year old house and have carefully repaired
the soffit and the front brick wall of the
house, and repainted the front.

17 North Church StreetKelly Glass - 17 S. Church St.- Owned by Patty LaCross.
This 1844 building was apparently a firehouse long ago.
It more recently housed Douw-Beekman Auto Parts.
This last business had closed up and the owners
were thinking of demolition.  Kelly Glass has filled
the restored space, proving again that historic
preservation makes good economic sense.4 Union Street

4 Union Street - owned by Ray Mahoutchian.
This apartment house has been renovated
in the thorough manner that Mr. Mahoutchian has used
with several other Stockade properties that he
has purchased.  His next project is the old
Children's Shelter, at 210 Union St.

930 State Street

930 State Street - owned by Kirshen and Merle Dudnath.
The Dudnaths reclaimed this one family home,
which had been used for offices, then abandoned,
and restored it to its former glory, inside and and out.
This home is a pioneer for restoration on a street
that will benefit from more caring owners
ike the Dudnaths.1171 Lowell Road

1171 Lowell Road - Owned by Jack and Sally Quinn.
This lovely Realty Plot  home was in need of enormous
work when purchased a few years ago by the Quinns.
Jack is a contractor who did the work himself,
a restoration both inside and out.

1025 Gillespie Street

1025 Gillespie Street, owned by Jackie Craven.
Jackie removed the vinyl siding from her house,
repaired the wooden siding that had been
covered, and repainted in beautiful historic colors.
